The Big Green Egg is based on the age-old Asian kamado. In 1974, Ed Fisher, founder of the Big Green Egg Inc. introduced the United States to this special cooking appliance. He had personally experienced how tasty and juicy ingredients were when prepared on a kamado. It was a new way of cooking outdoors and enjoying all the delicious dishes that can be made on a kamado.

From kamado to Big Green Egg

Over time, Ed Fisher continuously made improvements to the kamado. Each kamado was given a distinctive green colour and the Big Green Egg was born. Ed also went in search of the best ceramics in the world. Since then, Big Green Egg is the only kamado brand in the world that has all its ceramic components produced in a high-tech factory in Mexico and every Big Green Egg is coated with a solid porcelain glaze.
