Onyx is a deep, rich, dark gemstone. A beautiful jewel, as is this colour variant of the Big Green Egg.

This special release was created in direct response to consumer feedback, offering a new colour designed to integrate seamlessly into premium outdoor spaces. It delivers the same unmatched quality and performance you expect—now with a sophisticated finish that elevates any garden or terrace.

Initially, The Onyx will be offered in Large and XLarge sizes – two of the most popular choices for our customers.

The Onyx is available in various bundles. The Large comes in a bundle, with or without the intEGGrated Nest+Handler, the Dual Zone Deflector Kit and 2× Half Cast Iron Grid and as an outdoor kitchen in an EGG Frame with Expansion Frame including a Stainless Steel Grid Insert, 2x Distressed Acacia Wood Insert or 2x Acacia Wood Insert, 3x Caster Kit, Dual Zone Deflector Kit and 2x Half Cast Iron Grid. The XLarge comes in a bundle, with or without the intEGGrated Nest+Handler, convEGGtor, convEGGtor Basket and 2× Half Cast Iron Grid.

The Onyx will be introduced to the European market in Q2 2026 as a Special Edition. If successful, The Onyx may become a permanent addition to the Big Green Egg family.

It took us about a year to develop the ultra dark finish of The Onyx. When you open the dome, the magic happens, with the sunlight on the EGG you can spot a touch of green, keeping The Onyx a member of the Big Green family. A nod to the original.

The decision to create a new colour Big Green Egg was not taken lightly. The desire for it was high amongst our fanbase, who wanted a darker coloured kamado, better matching their outdoor spaces, but with the Big Green Egg quality. The Onyx delivers the same unmatched quality and performance you expect—now with a sophisticated ultra dark finish that elevates any garden or terrace.

No. The Onyx is the only alternative colour we’re offering.

Although the darker glaze colour may absorb slightly more heat from direct sunlight, this has no impact whatsoever on the temperature inside the Big Green Egg during use. The high-quality ceramic ensures a consistently stable and precisely controllable temperature in the Big Green Egg at all times. So your cooking experience remains exactly the same with The Onyx as with the original green Big Green Egg.

No. The Onyx finish is applied to the same high-quality ceramic and glaze as the original Big Green Egg, which is extremely durable and weather-resistant. Normal use, cleaning, and outdoor exposure will not cause noticeable scratches or stains. Like all Big Green Eggs, it’s built to withstand the elements and maintain its premium look for years.

1. Tiny speckles on the surface, will be slightly more visible on The Onyx, relative to green due to higher contrast.

Yes! All accessories designed for the traditional Large or XLarge Big Green Egg will fit the same-sized The Onyx Eggs perfectly.

The Onyx will be available via official Big Green Egg resellers across Europe. At Platinum and Gold resellers, The Onyx will be displayed in the showroom for customers to experience before purchase.

The Onyx can be purchased both in-store through local resellers and online.

The production process of The Onyx is more costly than that of the original. In addition, The Onyx includes two innovative, better Half Stainless Steel Grids.

Absolutely. Our limited lifetime warranty on ceramics applies to The Onyx just as it does to the original Big Green Egg. Colour is not covered under warranty, but in the rare case of a ceramic replacement, you may receive a different shade – making your EGG even more unique.

You may notice darker speckles on the inside of The Onyx Big Green Egg. This is a normal and intentional result of our production process.
In the original green Big Green Egg, lighter speckles are visible in the ceramic. For The Onyx, we have implemented a sustainable production process. As part of this approach, we reuse ceramic scrap material and glaze remnants, which are carefully processed and mixed into the ceramic composition for recycling purposes.
Because the recycled glaze material is incorporated into the ceramic body of The Onyx, darker speckles may appear inside the Egg. This visual difference is a direct result of our efforts to make the production process sustainable and reduce material waste.
These speckles are purely aesthetic and have no impact on the quality, durability, or performance of the product.
